Linz - 10 May 2010

Graz - 9 May 2010

Leaving Hallstatt via Stainach Irdning to Graz - 9 May 2010

9 May 2010 - The morning we left Hallstatt, the sky was blue and the town looked fresh after the previous day's spring shower. We said goodbye to this lovely town with a heavy heart.
We took the train to Graz where we would spend a night before flying back to London.

Hallstatt - Wandering Around Town - 8 May 2010

8 May 2010 morning, we went to the supermarket at the Lahn dock. There are two boat docks in Hallstatt, this other one is near the bus stop at the edge of town. We bought grocery for "Bak Kut Teh", some german biscuits and mozart balls for souvenir. After leaving the grocery at our apartment, we took a bus to Dachstein mountain - see the other post.
After Dachstein, we bought roasted chicken and had a picnic by the lake side. Then, we hiked up Dr. Morton Weg, the winding road above the town. Further up above the town we came to a little garden filled with spring flowers. Enjoyed the view of the town rooftops away from the tourists. We took the steps down into Market Square where a band was performing. We then visited the Catholic Cemetery where the graves were very well tended.
We came down from the Catholic church onto the main road past the Markt dock and made our way to House Sarstein where Evelyn and husband were staying. Just around the corner after the Catholic church was the location to shoot the "classic" Hallstatt view (see below). It started to drizzle and we quickly walked to House Starstein where Evelyn served us hot tea and biscuits. What an enjoyable way to have tea in the balcony looking at raindrops breaking the surface of the lake and the ducks playing in the water.
Later that evening we went back to Apartment Kerschbaumer for our final dinner with Evelyn & husband. They were going to Vienna whereas the four of us to Graz. We had been to Vienna in 2008 so we wanted to see other Austrian cities.
